About Councillor Mark Mills-Bishop

Councillor Mills-Bishop has lived in the Borough of Broxbourne, Hertfordshire  for nearly 30 years. He was born in Whitstable, Kent and married with four grown up children. His wife and eldest son are teachers in the Borough, his other children work in the social care field. He joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 1976 and retired from  the Criminal Investigation Department after 30 years’ distinguished service.

Councillor Mills-Bishop was elected in 2006 for the Goffs Oak Ward of Broxbourne Borough Council and re-elected in May 2010. He was a Vice Chairman of the Community Services Committee in 2007, a position he retained until 2010 when he was elected Mayor of the Borough. He was Deputy Mayor in 2009.

He was for many years Chair of the Board of Governors of a primary and a Secondary School in the Borough of Broxbourne. For the past 11 years he has been Chairman of the Independent Appeals Panel for Hertfordshire, a Judicial Body dealing with school admissions and exclusions within the County of Hertfordshire.

He serves on many committees of voluntary community organisations and supports numerous local charities. In his spare time he enjoys cricket, reading, local history and the arts. The theme of his mayoral year, to support the history, culture and heritage of the Borough of Broxbourne.
